For example, during the lamebrained “Something Special” (“Love is like something special”), White’s vocals and the tame brass wind up sounding more like Chicago than the old Earth, Wind.

Powerlight is the twelfth studio album of American band Earth, Wind & Fire, released in February by Columbia Records. The album rose to No. 4 on the Billboard Top R&B Albums chart and No. 12 on the Billboard chart. Powerlight was also certified Gold in the US by the RIAA.

May 09,  · A very strong release from the elements. Don't be fooled because it's a good ten years after their debut. This album has some quality tracks, 'side by side' 'the speed of love' and 'something 'special' are my three favourites, but the rest of this album holds up decent/5().

Many groups lose the steam that propelled them to the top; Earth, Wind & Fire, contemporary sound and all, were still blazing when this album was released."Fall in Love With Me" was the first single. With its festive rhythm and sauntering vocals, it became a number four hit on the Billboard R&B charts and a number 17 pop hit.8/

The Powerlight is burning bright – Maurice White, Philip Bailey, and the rest of the group still very much in classic formation! Even on a posts set like this, Earth Wind & Fire still manage to come up with tracks that beat the rest of the ensemble funk groups that grew up in their wake – groovers that still set a new level for the boogie generation, and mellow tracks that cross over.
